Chester RUFC Statement - Aled Evans
22-04-08

Chester Rugby club are extremely sorry to have to announce that Aled Evans, who was one of the selected 22 to represent the club at Twickenham on 12th April, having suffered a terrible accident in the form of a fall, died on Sunday 20th April from his injuries.

Aled, who joined the club shortly before christmas last year, quickly established himself in the first team squad as a member of the back row brotherhood. He was not known to take a backward or even sideways step and was always in the thick of battle, yet off the field he was a quiet individual with a dry sense of humour often backed with a wry smile. The club was hoping for a longer involvemant with Aled but this was not to be.

The players involved at Twickenham donated the game to Aled and he will be forever remembered at Chester RUFC.
Our sincerest comiserations go out to all his family and friends and we are honoured to have known him, even though only for a short while.

For and on behalf of Chester RUFC
Rob Foden
Head Coach

Chester End Season With Another Win
20-04-08

Chester 1st XV ended the most succesful season in recent history with another win, the 28th of the season, and kept the 2008 winning run intact (all 14 games since Jan 1st 08) with a comprehensive defeat of local side Lymm.

In what proved to be a tetchy encounter, with the home side regularly looking to make up for a lake of competitiveness in other ways, the Chester side remained focussed on ending the season with another 2 league points.

Chester Dedicate Intermediate Cup Victory To Injured Team-mate Aled

Chester captain Simon Verbickas today dedicated his side's EDF Energy Intermediate Cup triumph to critically injured team-mate Aled Evans.
The 29-year-old was airlifted to hospital in Bangor last Wednesday after falling from the roof of a farm building in North Wales.

Evans, who was due to line up at Twickenham with his teammates, has now been transferred to The Walton Centre for neurology and neurosurgery at Liverpool.

"This victory is for Aled and we'll be taking the trophy to him as soon as we can," said Verbickas.
"He's been part of the squad all season and we're a tight-knit group who work really hard together."
Verbickas lifted the cup after replacement wing Simon Love snatched victory in the last five minutes against the run of play.

Chester were on the ropes in the last 10 minutes of the game but Love stole the ball and ran 90 metres for the 73rd minute score that settled the contest between the Cheshire rivals.

Chester Win League

06/04/08

The 1st and 2nd in the league met at Hare Lane, Chester on Saturday, in the penultimate league game of the season with Chester coming out on top and winning not only the match but also automatic promotion back to North 1 league where they were relegated from last season.

Since relegation last season there has been a complete overhaul of the Chester coaching and playing staff at the Club and with the introduction of Rob Foden, as head coach of Chester, a new found confidence has spread throughout the Club. "When I was asked to take on the job of head coach last summer I had one objective in mind and that was to gain promotion in the first season.

This is only the beginning as my next objective is to push this Club into the National leagues which is achievable."
